Comparative Essay

Comparative Essay

Have you ever noticed people getting discriminated against? Well in the stories Jump Ship to Freedom and The Outsiders both share that common theme of discrimination.
First off in the book Jump Ship to Freedom the discriminating is coming from the white owner Captain Ivers abusing the black slave Daniel. But in The Outsiders the discriminating is coming from the Socs who are the rich kids. Socs beat up on the Greasers who are the poor kids who don’t have anywhere to go. Both books have the same concept which is being mean to the less fortunate which the Greasers and Daniel are.
Another reason why the Greasers are discriminated against is because the Socs always are being cocky and picking fights with the Greasers. Daniel is getting abused by Captain Ivers because Captain Ivers suspected Daniel of steeling the soldiers notes. Daniel is naked and is getting punched and kicked by Ivers. Just like Johnny from The Outsiders getting tossed around like a baseball by the Socs.
Furthermore these two books are also different.  One reason is because Daniel is only one person getting abused unlike the Greasers who are a whole gang. Another reason could be that Daniel’s abusing is because he is black. If he wasn’t black he wouldn’t be a slave and he wouldn’t have to be owned. He would have his rights. Unlike the Greasers who are all white, they are getting abused because they don’t have many rights. People see them and think that they are trouble.
This is why Jump Ship to Freedom and The Outsiders share a common theme of discrimination.
